Signed up for Skywards, sent flights statement and card copy via the online platform. In two days, I received a phone call from the local headquarters asking for details why I want the status match. The corporate agent wanted to find how much I will travel with Emirates this year. As I had no bookings and most of my future business travels were on a different airline, I told the truth, that I can't promise to switch to Emirates right away as I have never flown with them before. I had a confirmed reservation by Emirates in a few days' time, so I was already their paid customer. The agent said that an e-mail will be sent soon regarding their decision. In a day, I received a refused status match. Should I make another booking with Emirates this year, they would reconsider the status match to silver only. The refusal hit me with a big surprise as most of the status matches happened based on this forum.
So you, either tell sweet lies how much you will fly with them in the future or stay humble and honest and can forget the status match. Even if it was gold level to silver level only, which grants you access to the lounges.
P.S.: the flight was comfortable and the service was good onboard, but this made the whole airline experience not favorable before the flight. Missed brand moment.
